The Award Holders Association (AHA) is an international organization of individuals who seek to further the success of the Award Programme through support, promotion, development and networking. Some of the Award Holders Association objectives are:
- To assist the NAA with the provision, promotion and preservation of the Award Programme
- To provide a forum for the views of the Award Holders
- To contribute and volunteer their service to the local and national communities
- To provide members with social and other activities for there continued personal development.
These are initial objectives but each AHA throughout the region are free to add their own objectives to the association.
Currently, in the Bahamas, there is only one AHA, which is The Gold Award Holders Association (GAHA). This group, like many others has specific objectives, guidelines and also a constitution, which governs it.
The GGYA Gold Award Holders Association was established in 2000 under the leadership of Mrs. Jamie Humes but ceased meeting after just a year. It was not until 2003 that the GAHA was reestablished, under the presidency of Mr. Jason Curry followed by Mr. Javier Forbes as the third president.
Present officers are:
- Jacquetta Lightbourne - President
- Jason Curry - Vice President
- Anna Martin - Secretary
- Daron Albury - Treasurer
The GAHA assist with many activities within the GGYA mainly the International Coastal Clean-Up, Youth March and the Adventurous Journey Panel. They also give service annually to charitable organizations such as the Bailey Lane Children's Home and the Children AIDS Ward at the PMH.
Many of the GAHA members have attended international events and workshops such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Forum, the Americas Region Conference, the International Gold Event and the Caribbean Award Scheme Adventurous Journey and Leadership courses.
