The Importance of Unit Leaders

Under the direction of a Full-time administrator and a network of dedicated volunteers, the GGYA has expanded dramatically with active units now in Abaco, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Cat Island and Long Island.

The 70 plus leaders play an essential role in the success of the programme. They undergo rigorous training in first aid, water safety, conflict resolution and environmental awareness before committing to leading a group. From a retired math teacher to an active nurse to past programme participants, volunteers bring their own life experiences to the programme. Without them, the Governor-General's Youth Award would not exist. It is their energy and their willingness to spend afternoons teaching and weekends hiking and helping, supervising and nurturing that allows young people the opportunity to test themselves.

If you would like to volunteer as a leader please email us or contact us using the form on this website.
